"The pair's joy is infectious..."

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Raised on a steady diet of classical music and hip-hop, violist Wilner Baptiste (“Wil B”) and violinist Kevin Sylvester (“Kev Marcus”) have built a musical style all their own. Often described as “classical boom,” their musical mesh of two genres shares one common theme: bringing people together. Wil B and Kev Marcus came together in 2004 to create Black Violin, a Florida duo that fuses classical and hip-hop, and also adds elements of rock, bluegrass, R&B and pop. Accompanied by an incredible band featuring ace turntable whiz DJ SPS and a drummer, Black Violin performs an average of 200 shows per year while collaborating with such top names as Aerosmith, Wu-Tang Clan, Wyclef Jean, Alicia Keys and Kanye West. “Black Violin works hard, but makes it all look like play… Sometimes they play with the intense seriousness of orchestral soloists; at others they fiddle as if at a hoedown; at still others they strum the violin and viola like guitars.” (The New York Times) The Forbes Center will showcase the duo’s dynamic performance, melding infectious beats and lyrical melodies with classical instrumentation and searing technique in a unique blend that defies expectations and shatters stereotypes.  www.blackviolin.net
