William Wielgus, who enjoyed a 30-year career as an oboist with the prestigious National Symphony Orchestra, will perform an exciting concert with JMU doctoral piano student Jeremiah Padilla and JMU faculty oboist Jeanette Zyko.

William Wielgus enjoyed a 30-year career (1990­–2017) as an oboist with the prestigious National Symphony Orchestra. Prior to his time in the NSO, Wielgus served as English horn of the Oklahoma Symphony and principal oboe of the South Bend Symphony. He has also appeared at many major summer music festivals, including Aspen, Tanglewood and Spoleto. A charter member of the Eclipse Chamber Orchestra, Wielgus has performed as soloist in works of Honnegger, Strauss and Bach. He also serves as artistic coordinator of Teatro Lirico of DC, an organization promoting Hispanic music in the Washington, D.C area, and is collaborating with the conservatories of Lima and Trujillo to commission, perform and record oboe music of Peru. Currently on the oboe faculty at American University, Wielgus earned degrees from Indiana University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an Artist Diploma from the University of Cincinnati. 

Jeremiah Padilla is a doctoral student at JMU studying with Dr. Gabriel Dobner. As a soloist, Padilla has performed piano concerti with the Awit Pilipinas Youth Orchestra, the University of Memphis Orchestra, and the Memphis Repertory Orchestra. An avid collaborative pianist, he frequently enjoys sharing the stage with professors and colleagues at JMU. Other highlights include playing chamber music with members of IRIS Orchestra, Memphis Symphony Orchestra, and MRO.

Oboist Jeanette Zyko, praised by Fanfare magazine and ArtsNash for her “refined playing” and “achingly beautiful lines,” enjoys an active career as a chamber and orchestra musician.A versatile artist, she has performed music ranging from Andriessen to Zelenka and is interested in playing seldom-programmed works. Prior to joining the faculty of JMU, Zyko taught at Austin Peay State University and the University of Costa Rica. She received her doctorate from Manhattan School of Music. Full bio
