This collaborative program features Lowell Liebermann’s Ice Music (2012) for Chamber Ensemble, Sofia Gubaidulina’s Sounds of the Forest for Flute and Piano, Katherine Hoover’s Kokopeli for Solo Flute, Ian Clarke’s Spiral Lament for Flute and Piano, and other works. This multimedia presentation features stunning videography of the Arctic wilderness by photographer/flutist Brooks de Wetter-Smith.

Flutist Beth Chandler enjoys an active career as soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player and teacher. A frequent guest artist and master class clinician, Chandler has performed and presented at major venues, festivals and universities throughout the United States and abroad. Praised for her musical versatility and colorful sound, she has won numerous awards, including prizes at the Flute Talk, Myrna Brown Artist, and National Flute Association competitions. As a Fulbright Scholar, Chandler studied in Kent, England. A native Texan, Chandler holds degrees from Baylor University, New England Conservatory and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She is Professor of Flute at James Madison University, a past recipient of the JMU College of Visual and Performing Arts Distinguished Teacher Award, and a past president of the National Flute Association. She recently released TIME PLACE SPIRIT (MSR Classics), an album of music for flute and piano. www.bethchandler.com
