“One of the most important figures in modern jazz improvisation” (All About Jazz), tenor saxophonist and composer Ellery Eskelin is a New York City-based musician who has earned international acclaim for his “imaginative, daring” work over the past three decades. Eskelin is most often associated with the trio he formed with accordionist Andrea Parkins and drummer Jim Black in 1994. He wrote over 50 compositions for the group, which performed hundreds of concerts in North America—including at JMU in 2003—and abroad over its 20-year run. Eskelin currently performs freely improvised music juxtaposed with early jazz classics in an ensemble with bassist Christian Weber and drummer Michael Griener—and in solo performances like this debut at the Forbes Center!  www.elleryeskelin.com
